GED Preparation

The Adult Learning Center offers three different paths to preparing for the GED exam.

1. GED TEST PREP CLASS

This 18-hour class is for people who already show strong reading and math skills, close to what is needed to pass the GED exam. This class meets Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for two weeks (9 hours/week). The class reviews all five subject areas of the test, provides test-taking strategies that increase your score, and gives you the chance to take the the Official GED Practice Tests to fully prepare for the exam. If you complete this class and pass all the practice tests, you will be eligible for a $10 discount on your official GED exam fee.

If you need more preparation after the Test Prep class, you may continue on an individualized study schedule in the afternoons. Also, if you are unable to attend T-Th mornings, you may arrange afternoon times to complete your test preparation.

2. GED SKILLS BUILDER CLASSES

These classes are for people who need more time to review or strengthen their skills before they are ready for the GED exam. You will concentrate on the essential skills in reading, math and/or writing that are required to earn a GED diploma. Classes are held on an individualized schedule and are available  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the mornings or afternoons. Whenever you and your teachers see that your skills are strong enough, you will move into  GED test prep and practice testing before taking the official exam.

3. GED PREPARATION ONLINE

Study at home on your computer  - you may choose a self-directed program or one that interacts online with a GED teacher . You can study in any or all of the five areas: math, writing, science, social studies or literature. Requirements for the interactive program include a home computer with access to the internet, experience with email and internet searches, a 9th grade reading level, and an orientation session that is completed in person.
