SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS:  Do you want to own your own business someday or even now?  The UMD Teen Enterprise Camp will be held from June 17-21st at UMD.  This camp challenges students to think entrepreneurially while still in high school.  Activities during the week will include:  business plan development, research, fun entrepreneurial activities, a visit to a local business and the local small business development center, business plan presentations, and a harbor cruise.  For more information and how to register, pick up a flyer outside the Career Center.


 

SOPHOMORES: East High School will, again, offer next year's college bound 11th grade students an opportunity to take the PSAT exam. This exam is voluntary and will be given at East High School on Wednesday October 16, 2013 from 8:00 – 11:00 am.  Students may choose to take the PSAT for one or more of the following reasons:

 

· College scholarship competitions based on academic skills – The National Merit Scholarship requires PSAT scores during the junior year in high school to enter the competition.

 

· To discover how their academic skills compare to those of other four-year college bound juniors

 

· Practice for the SAT admissions test

Although not limited to these criteria, the typical characteristics of a student who take a PSAT include:

 

· A junior in high school

 

· A 3.5 GPA

 

· Planning to attend a 4-year college

ATTENTION EAST SUPER FANS:  Do you want to get into games for free?  Do you want to help create new and positive traditions at games?  Do you want to earn free greyhound clothing?  The East Activities office is looking for a few East students that attend East games and activities and that possess the following traits:  strong moral character, dependability, leadership skills, school spirit, and will work as part of a team.  Here is what you will do:  Work with game security and cheerleaders to ensure East fans are representing East with class, focus on school spirit, work to create new positive traditions, help with game set-up and halftime events, play music, and have fun.  Stop by the East Activities office for an application for the bleacher captains program, they are due on May 29, don't wait, get involved in this exciting opportunity today!  Go Greyhounds!


 

STUDENTS:  Lake Superior College will be holding a Robotic Summer Camp.  The Summer Camps are June 10th through 13th for boys and June 17th through 20th for girls.  Times for the camp are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  If you are interested in creating robots sign up for the Robotic Summer Camp.  All camp participants will receive free transportation, meals and have a great experience in designing, building and operating a robot.  Application forms are available in the Guidance Office and are due by June 3, 2013.

HEY GREYHOUNDS:  This week is Green Week here at East.  Help support East become more green by picking up a Green Week Punch Card at lunch.  Follow the notes on the back of the card to do green things all week long, get all five punches and redeem it for either a Cookie Club Cookie or a Hound Pound!  Don’t forget to buy a water bottle or bag at lunch and sign the pledge to reduce your use of plasti

 

HEY EAST:  Please help East be green!  Did you know:  An estimated 80,000,000 Hershey’s Kisses are wrapped each day, using enough aluminum foil to cover over 50 acres of space – that’s almost 40 football fields.  All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it.  Place paper, with no food on it, aluminum, and plastic in the recycling bins – don’t throw away our resources!  This is your Earth, your future, the choice is yours!!
