Becoming a Duluth Public Schools Parent

To Enroll Your Child In Elementary School...

Each school has a distinct personality, and offers something unique for its students.  Check  How to Enroll  to learn more.  Minnesota's Department of Education website provides information about class sizes, teacher experience and education, classroom support, test scores and other valuable information.  Check our Curriculum Department for 2002 Family Survey results, along with School Site Improvement Plans.

To enroll, simply call, visit or email your neighborhood school.  Contact information for all our schools can be found in this website.  You'll be asked to fill out an enrollment form at the school - please bring along your child's social security number, birth certificate and immunization record.

Each school serves a designated attendance area.  If you're not sure which school serves your attendance area, phone our Transportation Department at 218-336-8970.

  • If you enroll in your attendance area school and live a certain distance from school, the district provides transportation.

  • If you enroll in one of our three magnet schools (Grant, Nettleton or Lowell), and live a certain distance from school, the district provides transportation.

  • If you enroll in a school outside your attendance area, and it is not a magnet school, you provide transportation for your student.

Parents wishing to send their student to a school outside their attendance area may do so by filling out and submitting a Transfer Form .

Open Enrollment:   Duluth schools welcome children from other Minnesota communities.

Regardless of which school you choose, rest-assured your child will receive the strong, nurturing, well-rounded education he needs to succeed.
