  • Enroll in the College of Education and Human Services at UMD
  • Fill out a current FASFA
  • Fill out the Teacher Training Program Application and mail to:  Department of Indian Education, 215 North First Avenue East, Duluth, MN, 55802

A program to prepare American Indian teachers, providing funds for tuition , fees, books and living expenses to selected persons who enroll in a special teacher training and mentoring program in the College of Education and Human Services Professions at the University of Minnesota, Duluth

The funding for this program is in two parts:
 
1) scholarship monies for tuition, books, and UMD fees;
2) loan monies for a living expense stipend.  The loan is repaid by the participant working in a Minnesota public school for five years

To be eligible, an applicant must be:


  • American Indian
  • A resident of the State of Minnesota
  • One of the following:

(1) A student enrolled at UMD who intends to become a teacher in Minnesota, or

(2) A teacher aide who is an employee of ISD #709 and who intends to become a teacher, or

(3) A licensed teacher of ISD #709 who is taking coursework to fulfill a Master of Education degree, and


 

A student who, after applying for federal and state financial aid according to Minnesota Statutes, has financial needs that remains unmet.
